Since joining the show, the character has been involved in a storyline with long-term character Leanne Battersby.

As the organiser of seminars at The Institute, viewers have seen Rowan use his charm to win Leanne's trust.

The character has been depicted as mysterious and elusive, with viewers not yet knowing his backstory.

Leanne’s loved ones, including sister Toyah and fiancé Nick, have become concerned that she may be leaning too heavily into Rowan’s teachings.

She even convinced the pair she had quit Rowan’s classes and wouldn’t be contacting him anymore.

In actual fact, Rowan had lured Leanne in to sign up for another module.

Rather than any sinister intentions, it was a ‘blunder’ tied to Rowan which grabbed viewers’ attention in Monday’s episode.

While on a video call to Leanne, fans pointed out the poor, grainy quality of his web feed, which seemed decidedly behind the times.

One viewer wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Glad to see I’m not the only one questioning why the Institution can’t afford decent internet…”

Another penned: “OMG, Why are they drawing attention to his crappy bandwidth?”

While a third joked: "Lol I can basically hear the noughties dial up tone - when is this supposed to be set?!"

The storyline comes at a time of change for Leanne, with adoptive son Simon Barlow soon leaving the cobbles.

Alex Bain is exiting the role after almost 16 years, with the 22-year-old actor having debuted on the ITV soap in 2008.

The character Simon first appeared in 2003 and was played by twins at the time of his birth.
