Teofimo Lopez has called for a fight with Ryan Garcia this year following his win over Devin Haney.

Garcia shocked the boxing world on April 20 as he floored the WBC super-lightweight world champion three times and beat him by decision.

Prior the bout, he caused controversy with his erratic antics and social media posts which left many fans speculating that he may be struggling with mental health issues.

Some even called for him to be pulled out of the contest, especially after he missed weight by 3lbs and became ineligible to win Haney's belt.

However, in his post-fight interview after winning, Garcia proudly said: "Y'all really thought I was crazy?"

And he has since claimed his entire demeanour in the build-up was an act.

Jack Catterall says he would welcome fights against Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez after facing Josh Taylor

Last year, Lopez was involved in a similar scenario before his bout with Josh Taylor, albeit on a smaller scale.

Some fans had concerns for him after watching interviews he'd given in the build-up to the contest, only for him to surprisingly dominate Taylor in the ring and take his WBO super-lightweight world title.

Discussing his future plans for 2024, Lopez told PUNSH DRUNK BOXING: "We even said hey to Ryan and his team to do something in September or December.

"It doesn't necessarily have to be at my weight class, it could be a catchweight so we don't have to have any problems moving forwards."

Similarly to Haney vs Garcia, there were pre-fight concerns for Lopez before he comfortably beat Taylor

And giving his thoughts on Haney vs Garcia, Lopez added: "Everybody got psyched from what Ryan was doing.

"He played it smart, he did what he did. Congratulations to him…

"I'm actually happy things turned out the way it did.

"With Ryan now in the mix it just makes things much better."

Fans have reacted positively to the prospect of this potential showdown.

And given the track records of both men, people are expecting a wild pre-fight promotion if they do come together.

One fan commented on Lopez's call-out: "Great fight, plus the stupidest build-up we will ever witness."

While a second said: "Two of the least serious men in boxing! The fight itself is gonna be one sided but the lead up to the fight is gonna be a gong show."

A third fan wrote: "Do you know how crazy the promo would be for this fight?"

And another added: "The build-up would probably be insane enough to break the fourth wall and glitch the simulation."
