Back in November last year, Ryan Garcia had sent an offer to Lopez for the fight, however, at that time Lopez refused to take the fight. Why? This is what Lopez had to say about it. He told Boxing News, “When you’re the best, when you are the guy, when you bring major sponsors, endorsements, big major business deals, when you offer me a 1.5 [million dollars] stake in the piece f*** you. Months later, seeing the success of Garcia-Haney’s fight, Lopez seemed to have changed his mind. Now, speaking to PUNSH DRUNK Boxing, he stated, We even said hey to Ryan and his team to do something in September or December. It doesn’t necessarily have to be at my weight class, it could be a catchweight so we don’t have to have any problems moving forwards.

So, the fans have clearly caught up on this opportunistic mindset of Teofimo Lopez, and even called him out in the comments section. However, there were still statements that were excited for this fight.

Fight fans divided for Garcia-Lopez fight

Boxing Twitter is buzzing after Teofimo Lopez’s surprise call-out of Ryan Garcia following his victory over Devin Haney. The potential fight has fans divided, with strong opinions on both sides.

One fan believes a catchweight bout is the key to making this fight happen. They argue it would be a “great deal for both fighters and the sport of boxing.” Teo’s willingness to compromise on weight seems like a strategic move to entice Garcia into the ring.

Another fan is excited by the prospect of Garcia getting another shot at glory. Garcia’s recent win has boosted his confidence, and fans are eager to see if he can pull off another “shock the world” moment.

Another fan is skeptical of Lopez’s motives. They point out that Lopez previously avoided a fight with Garcia. His sudden interest, especially after reaching 35, raises questions about his current form and weight struggles.

One fan remembers the entire fiasco that happened between Lopez and Garcia, when their bout fell apart. So, he called out the hypocrisy of Lopez.

A fan takes a more critical stance. They mock Lopez’s need for a catchweight and suggest he’s facing a decline in his career. These fans believe Garcia would easily overpower a past-his-prime Lopez.

One thing’s for sure: Teofimo Lopez’s call-out has injected a dose of excitement into the boxing world. Whether this fight becomes a reality, and if so, at what weight, remains to be seen. But the potential matchup is sure to generate significant buzz and debate among boxing fans in the coming weeks. What are your thoughts on this? Tell us in the comments below.
