Rising airline fees have seen many travellers caught out with a hefty fine at the airport whether it's mixing up the free carry-on sizes or paying for an accidently overweight case. Now shoppers are rushing to Amazon for one of its recent best-sellers, a £4 gadget users say is a 'must for ditching airport baggage fees'.

At just £4.95 one of Amazon's most popular handy tools is the Pjp Electronics Digital Luggage Weighing Scales, a hand-held gadget that'll weigh your cases at home before you pop them on the sometimes bill-rising airport ones. Costing less than a cuppa at most UK airports, shoppers say 'everyone who flies should have one of these'.

Originally more than £7 the simple 'travel staple' product is soaring in popularity, with more than 3,000 Amazon shoppers snapping it up in the past month. Unlike the usual dump on top of the airport carousel scale, this handheld device works by wrapping around the handle of a suitcase or any under-the-seat bag, giving you a precise weight as you lift it up.

No more weighing yourself before and while attempting to hold up a heavy suitcase, this affordable scale will help travellers avoid being caught out in hefty airport fees. As the Amazon description explains how it'll 'eliminate the panic of not knowing how much your luggage costs'.

Under-seat bags, which don't come with an added fee on the likes of Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways, and Jet2 have become popular must-have buys for holidaymakers. Bags for as little as £30, like this CabinMax one, will avoid paying at least £15 each way to bring a cabin suitcase onboard - despite already paying for a ticket.

And according to recent buyer reviews, this £4 Digital Weighing Scale is just as popular. Out of 5,000 Amazon reviews, 72% of them are a full five-stars with just 3% of shoppers giving it a one-star, out of the few negative comments some users 'the battery life wasn't as long as they'd hoped for'.

Man holding luggage scale
All travellers have to do is strap the scale around their hand luggage or check-in suitcase, when lifted up it'll tell you the weight

Nonetheless, the online retailer is flooded with thousands of users saying it's been key to ditching airline fees. "Bought this before I travelled to America this month, someone in line before us had to pay excess baggage fees of $100 so buying this was way worth it", said one shopper.

Another shopper said that the scale readings were spot on, a feature which they said helped avoid any extra-baggage fines. They said: "One particular aspect that impressed me was the accuracy. As I weighed it at the airport, the weight stated on the product matched perfectly, allowing me to adjust my luggage accordingly and avoid any additional fees or inconvenience."

The hand-held scale has a digital display to help make readings easily identifiable, while its backlit LCD screen gives travellers visibility at night. Salter and Featherstone at Argos are other brands offering the same hand-held weighing for flyers, although some do have a hook instead of what seems to be a more secure-looking strap.
