Kaizer Chiefs have made a U-Turn on the future of experienced central midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe who looked destined to leave the club.

Sithebe is staying put

According to Soccer-Laduma, former AmaZulu midfield schemer Sithebe will sign a new two-year contract at Naturena when the season finishes.

“It will happen. It has started now and the club (Chiefs) has offered him (Sithebe) a two-year contract to extend at the end of the season. I think the player has done enough in the few games he has played to prove himself that he deserves a renewal. So, as it stands now, everything could be finalised before the end of the season,” said the source.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is back in the fold

31-year-old Sithebe seems to have turned his fortunes around with a string of solid displays in recent weeks. The ex-Usuthu man has been preferred to Venezuelan schemer Edson Castillo in the engine room, alongside former Stellies man Sibongiseni Mthethwa. That has also meant the minutes have dried up for 22-year-old Samkelo Zwane. Sithebe’s tally of league outings this term still only stands at six, however.

Amakhosi need to slicken things up in all departments

Amakhosi have scored 21 goals in 25 games. That means 10 top-flight teams have scored more than them. To be placed 11th out of 16 in that metric isn’t acceptable for a club of this stature, but it’s nothing new. They were the only side in the top six with a negative goal difference. It’s clear where the issues lie. With a total of 41 goals featuring in their 25 matches, The Glamour Boys have been anything but glamorous. That tally is by far the lowest in the DStv Premiership, the next lowest total goals-per-game figure is 44. That belongs to AmaZulu. Fans haven’t exactly been treated to champagne football this season at FNB Stadium.
