Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be pressing ahead with plans to secure the services of a new coach next season.

Arthur Zwane was in-charge at Chiefs last season, before being replaced by Molefi Ntseki ahead of the current campaign.

To the majority of the Chiefs fan base, Ntseki was already an unpopular appointment, with no positive track record. Prior to taking over the first team reigns, he had never coached a senior professional side. He did, however, coach Bafana Bafana after Stuart Baxter, before being fired for failing to qualify for AFCON 2021. The duo reunited as part of a new structure at Amakhosi, which put him in charge of football development.

Ntseki did not last long as Chiefs coach, however, being sacked before even the halfway mark of the season. This came after an unconvincing start to the campaign which also saw them knocked out of two cups. After being relieved of his duties, the club appointed Johnson to take over on an interim basis. Coincidently, Cavin Johnson also came into the club in a developmental role, before being asked to steady the senior ship.

Chiefs searching for new coach

A run which saw Chiefs winning three of their last four games of 2024, saw Johnson in with a shout. But now according to the latest, the club are back looking at other candidates. There have been the likes of Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi in a local sense. Internationally, Jose Peseiro, Vanderlei Luxembergo , Raul Caneda Perez and Nasreddine Nabi.

One of the coaches that has also been mentioned here and there is Congolese national Florent Ibenge. Ibenge is currently the coach of South Sudanese giants Al Hilal. According to controversial former Chiefs player Junior Khanye he should stay there.

Khanye says no to Ibenge

“I am shocked if Kaizer Chiefs are going to go and chase that guy as their next coach. What does Florent Ibenge know about Chiefs? That is more like off ramping after another off ramp. A lot of bad things have happened when it comes to that club and a proper coach like Pitso Mosimane is what is needed there. Pitso is on a six-month contract there in Saudi Arabia and he should come back to the PSL once that is done. Chiefs should appoint Pitso even if it means he has to bring his entire technical team,” said the Khanye to Soccer-Laduma.

Rui Vitoria formerly of Egypt and Benfica is reportedly the new favourite for the Chiefs job.
