Sekhukhune midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize got his big break under Pitso Mosimane. Now Kaizer Chiefs want to sign him.

Mkhize wanted by Kaizer Chiefs

Sekhukhune midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize is an integral component of the Babina Noko midfield. Under Lehlohonolo Seema, the 25-year-old has made 20 league appearances and 29 across all competitions this term. Often combative, the 2021 DStv Premiership winner has picked up five yellow cards this season. Mkhize left Mamelodi Sundowns in July last year. ‘Busquets’, as he’s affectionately known, was promoted to the Sundowns first team by the great Pitso Mosimane. He’s also had stints with Ajax Cape Town and Chippa on his journey.

Midfield maestro Mkhize was a Pitso player

According to FarPost, the player’s agent Ntobatsi Masegela is keeping his cards close to his chest but not ruling out a big move for his client. So far, no talks have been held.

“Siphesihle Mkhize is contracted to Sekhukhune United and we thank the club for believing in him. The fact that they bought him out of Sundowns meant a lot about how they rate him,” Masegela said.

“I mean you can see that the move has worked perfectly for both the player and club. Mkhize has managed to play regular football at Sekhukhune, and you can see how the team is doing.

“And you know when a player is doing well, the so-called big teams are going to sniff around. But I can tell you know we haven’t engaged Chiefs over the transfer of Mkhize.

“However, I always say with all my players, they are ambitious players who are looking to improve their game. So, all the interest in Mkhize has to be directed to Sekhukhune. I’m sure with the right offer, the club give him their blessings.”

What’s next for Amakhosi?

Cavin Johnson’s men, fresh off a much-needed 2-1 win against SuperSport, are out to spoil the Sundowns party this week. The Brazilians will seal a seventh consecutive league title with three points on Thursday against Chiefs. They might even have the title wrapped up before that if Stellenbosch loses to Golden Arrows on Wednesday. Amakhosi face Sundowns on 2 May, with kickoff at 19:30. Amakhosi will want to put on a show for their fans and avoid rolling out the red carpet for Rulani and his team.
