A typical round of boxing is scored 10-9, with the fighter adjudged to have won the round scoring 10 and the loser scoring 9.

A 10-8 round is usually scored when either a knockdown or a completely one-sided affair takes place.

The fighters' totals are tallied up and the winner is the one with the best aggregate score from all three judges.
