Church News

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren hosts a night of fun and fellowship for individuals and groups with developmental disabilities from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the church, 554 Stanton St., Southwest Greensburg. Dinner is included. Participants must be accompanied by a family member or caregiver. Donations will be accepted. Details: 724-834-2130 or gbgcob.org.

Fundraisers

• West Newton Public Library will have a used book and jewelry sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 in the library parking lot, 124 N. Water St. Fill a shopping bag for $5. Details: 724-633-0798.

• Congruity Church, 136 Fenneltown Road, Salem, will have buffet turkey dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. May 11 at the church. Takeout available. Reservations required by May 5. Cost: $12; 6 to 12, $5; younger than 6, free. Reservations: 724-668-7740 or 724-668-7577.

• Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Hempfield, is accepting space reservations for a craft, vendor and yard sale set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1 in the church parking lot. • Olive Branch Baptist Church, 296 Route 981, Rostraver, will host its monthly clothing sale from 9:30 to 11 a.m. May 4 at the church. Donations of clean, used clothing in plastic bags are welcome and can be placed on the porch at the rear of the building. Profits are used to help those in need.

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. May 2 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Hempfield. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Payout is 50-50. Free coffee. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies.

• Jeannette American Legion will host bingo at 1 p.m. May 5 at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $25 per packet, includes regular and special games. There will be a $750 jackpot game, magic number, door prizes and 50-50. The kitchen will be open. Smoke-free venue. Proceeds benefit veterans and community activities. Details: Rick, 724-600-5061.

• Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA of Westmore­land) will host a pickleball tournament fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 at YMCA of the Laurel Highlands, 490 Bessemer Road, East Huntingdon. First- and second-place and best-dressed awards will be given, and light refreshments will be served. Cost: $100 per player. Reservations: casaofwestmoreland.org/pickleball.

• Thyme for Herbs Club will sponsor an herb and plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon May 4 at Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, 671 Balzer Meyer Pike, Hempfield. Checks and cash accepted. Educational information will be available, and there will be a children’s table.

• A rummage and bake sale will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 1 at Maplewood Presbyterian Church, 108 Woodland Road, Hempfield. Sponsored by Philanthropic Educational Organization. Proceeds will benefit educational scholarships for women.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Union Presbyterian Church, 656 Route 380, Washington Township.

History

• A free Museum Day in the Ligonier Valley will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5. Stop in at any of these museums and pick up a free passport: Lincoln Highway Experience, Ligonier Valley Railroad Museum, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Fort Ligonier or Compass Inn Museum. Get your passport stamped at three of the five locations to be entered to win a $250 gift certificate to spend in the Ligonier Valley.

• Historic Hanna’s Town, 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield, will open for the season May 4. Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission: $10; senior citizens, $8; students, $6; children 5 and younger, free. Details: westmorelandhistory.org.

Special Event

• The Westmoreland Bar Association/Foundation will sponsor a free Wills for Heroes clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14 by appointment at the Westmoreland Bar Association, 100 N. Maple Ave., Greensburg. Volunteer attorneys will provide in-­person private consultations to first responders, military veterans and their spouses. Appointments required: tinyurl.com/2y55bj83.
