Leeds v Southampton preview

Leeds head into Saturday's final match of the Championship season knowing nothing less than a win will do if they want to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League and avoid the roller coaster ride of a play-off campaign.

Daniel Farke's promotion push has crumbled slightly over the final few weeks of the season, having won only one of their last five matches, a run which has seen them lose three, including a shock 4-0 defeat at relegation threatened QPR last weekend.

Leeds head into the final weekend of the season boasting the record of the best home record in the second tier, which leaves the club heading into Saturday three points behind second placed Ipswich, though with a better goal difference.

The Yorkshire side will break into the top two and reach the Premier League, just a year after their relegation from the top flight, should they beat Southampton and Ipswich lose at home to Huddersfield.

Southampton were right in the battle for automatic promotion just over two weeks ago after three consecutive wins left them just four points outside the top two, but three defeats in three games since means they have to settle for fourth place regardless of Saturday's result.

Only Ipswich have lost fewer matches away from home in the Championship this season than Russell Martin's side ahead of the final day of the season, which will be seen as a chance to get the Saints back to winning ways before their play-off campaign starts next weekend.

The Hampshire side, like Leeds are bidding to earn promotion straight back to the Premier League at the first time asking following last season's relegation, but will have to do it the hard way with a two-legged semi final to get past before the all-important Wembley final.

There's nothing to separate Leeds or Southampton across recent meetings with each team, with a win apiece in their last two matches and draws in their previous two, however the Saints are winless at Elland Road in 12 years, losing three on three of their last four visits.

📝 Leeds v Southampton betting tips

Each teams respective top scorers Crysencio Summerville and Adam Armstrong have both bagged 20 goals this season in all competitions heading into the final game of the regular season, leaving Sky Bet's 8/1 pricing of both to score and over 2.5 goals looking a very tempting one.
