A new app designed to ease delays at the French border won’t be ready when tough new European entry controls launch later this year, MPs have said.

Eurostar, which operates services from London St Pancras International, had been especially hopeful that the app would be ready in time for when the new entry and exit system (EES) launches in October.

Under the EES, all passengers without EU passports will be required to register their fingerprints and have their pictures taken on arrival in the bloc. This will add two to three minutes of processing time per passenger, up from about 45 seconds at present. There are particular concerns about delays at St Pancras, where French border controls are carried out on UK soil.
