Move over Hugh Jackman. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have a new A-list celeb to host at a Wrexham match: Taylor Swift.
The SToKe Cae Ras has played host to a number of high-profile celebrities since the club's Hollywood takeover three years ago by the Deadpool star and It's Always Sunny creator. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Ant Man (Paul Rudd) and Elf (Will Ferrell) have all taken in the glamour of the north Wales club, alongside Emma Corrin, Blake Lively and the entire cast of It's Always Sunny .
But in today's modern celebrity age, one light shines brightest and that's the pop icon Swift.
And fresh off their promotion to the third tier of English football -- the club's second in as many seasons -- the Red Dragons' co-owners have devised a plan to lure Swift to the Racecourse Ground next season.
The EFL club owners appeared on ESPN's 'The Dan Patrick Show' on Wednesday where the host queried the potential of luring Swift -- who has tour dates in the UK soon -- attending a match.
"That would be a coup... yeah, I would love that," Reynolds said. McElhenney followed up by saying the coup may have to involve NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce - the latter of whom is Swift's other half.
"I know for sure that the Kelce brothers are coming out to a game, so it's just a matter of time," the It's Always Sunny actor said.
"That's our backdoor plan," Reynolds responded. "That's how you lure the queen bee."
The connections between the stars is tangled and plentiful. Lively, Reynolds' wife, is a good friend of Swift's. The pair attended this year's Las Vegas Super Bowl together, along with Jackman, in support of Swift's new boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs tight-end. Reynolds and Lively also joined Swift in supporting the three-time Super Bowl winner against the New York Jets at Met Life Stadium in October.
Meanwhile, the Kelce brothers have become two of the biggest names in sporting culture, aided further by the fame of Swift. Travis' older brother, Jason, retired from the Philadelphia Eagles this season, the boyhood team of Wrexham co-owner McElhenney.
And the two crossed paths recently when during an episode of his award-winning New Heights podcast. Jason suggested that Welsh people were "posh, rich and upper-class" when discussing new Welsh NFL prospect Louis Rees-Zammit, who has joined the Chiefs as part of the international NFL player pathway.
"When I think of Welsh, I think British people call it 'posh'. I think of these rich, upper class, just beautiful white people," he said.
"He [Rees-Zammit] is the running stereotype of what I would think of with a Welsh person. I don't know if that's an accurate stereotype but that's certainly what I think of and he's helping continue that trend in my mind.
"I'm excited to see what this guy does. I know it's gonna be a learning curve, but I hope this guy takes the world by f****** storm."
Kelce's comments incurred some backlash, forcing the former centre into a quick about-face. He wrote to one fan on X: "Yea, I’ve come to understand, I was very incorrect on this. Based on further assessment since these incorrect statements, not sure why I had these preconceptions in my mind, but I have found that the Welsh seem exactly like my kind of people. Happy to be incredibly wrong."
McElhenney then got involved and extended an invitation for a personal tour of the country to better inform him on his perception.
"Yes, incredibly wrong," McElhenney posted, adding: "I should show you around someday. I might know a few people. See for yourself."
And it seems the Kelce brothers have accepted McElhenney's request, and that could just be the pathway to seeing T Swift taking in a League One match next season.
