A South Belfast driving range has been demolished as plans have been submitted for over 140 new homes.

The Knockbracken Driving Range on Ballymaconaghy Road in the Four Winds area, which was a starting point for many people in Belfast learning to play golf, has been demolished as plans have been submitted for 141 new homes on the site to Lisburn and Castlereagh District Council.

Lotus Homes Ltd and the Benmore Group have proposed plans for the new development which will consist of 81 detached dwellings, 44 semi-detached, 14 apartments, and two bungalows, along with a children's play area and landscaping.

Plans for 126 homes on the site have already been approved by the council which had been proposed by a previous developer.

The Design and Access statement for the new proposed development highlights its location close to Forestside Shopping Centre, local schools, sports and recreation facilities and transport links.

It also says that the development has taken disability access into consideration and that "one of the key objectives behind the design of the scheme has been the need to ensure everyone can move around with comfort and convenience, regardless of their age or disabilities".
