BEING a mum is never easy, especially nowadays when everyone has an opinion about parenting.

In fact, one mum has been brutally criticised after giving her five-year-old a double bed and TV in her bedroom.

Ironically, she had a pretty good reason for the boujee bedroom.

Though her TikToks are usually about cleaning hacks, hauls and décor, the proud mum decided to hit back at the trolls in a now-viral video.

Posting under the user name @ourhouse_tohome, she revealed that she’d become frustrated with the nasty comments she’d received about her daughter’s bedroom.

Despite the space being fit for a princess, with pink bedding, cuddly toys and Barbie dolls, this wasn’t enough for the trolls.

“Why does my five-year-old have a double bed, a TV and a non-character bedroom?" She pointedly asked.

The content creator continued sayong: "Every time I clean Phoebe’s bedroom, the comments are always so controversial and usually full of people saying she shouldn’t have the bed that she has."

The influencer then calmly explained why she’d furnished the bedroom this way.

Insisting that she didn’t need to explain herself, she revealed that the majority of items had actually been hand-me-downs after she’d upgraded other items in her home.

Rather than selling the double bed, the savvy mum had decided to give Phoebe her old bed to replace the toddler bed she’d grown out of.

Though the small double was big for the now five-year-old, the influencer knew that it will save the family money in the future as they won’t have to upgrade it again.

“This is a small double but in the long run, it’s going to be worth it as she is probably gonna want a bigger bed anyway,” she told her followers.

She then joked: “I have also never met a child that sleeps the way she does, so she definitely needs the extra space.”

Likewise, the TV had also been passed down when Phoebe’s parents decided to upgrade their telly a few years ago.

Though her mum had made the effort to attach it to the wall, it had barely been used by the little one.

Even the non-character bedroom had been a clever choice, with the TikTok star explaining that her daughter had been involved in picking out the pink tones and flower wall design.

Though most parents will have to upgrade their kids' bedrooms as they grow up, the influencer insists that the bedroom will last her a lot longer as she can just upgrade the accessories.

Others agreed, saying that the mum had made the right decision for her little one.

“I never had a character bedroom and always loved my room,” argued one fan.

“Yes, why does your daughter have a beautiful, warm, cosy environment to sleep in!? Don't explain yourself to anyone,” commented another, also hitting back at the trolls.

Many mums also revealed that they’d made similar decisions to save money as their kids grew up.

“I feel like people forget that kids like … grow up over time and that it’s expensive to keep up with them,” stated a third.

How to save on your kids' bedroom

If your little one's bedroom is overdue an upgrade, there are some easy ways to save money.

  1. Upcycle items - just like this mum, you could save a small fortune by sourcing items second hand. Facebook Marketplace, eBay and even specialist charity shops are great places to look for furniture.
  2. Age up - your kids might be little now, but they will quickly grow up. To save your time and money, stick to paint the walls with a simple design. You can always add the favourite character with the furnishings, which can be easily swapped out as they age.
  3. Wall stickers - if you do want to add a pop of colour to a bland bedroom, you can easily do this by adding wall stickers. Available at almost every DIY store, these can save you time and money - compared to painting your design
  4. Double up - does your furniture have mutiple purposes? Could that changing table be used as a chest of drawers later? Will they be able to use that toddler bed for years, or is it better to get them a double? Whenever possible, try to find furniture that can grow with your little ones.
  5. Keep the clutter away - it's good to have lots of storage but is it accessible to your kids? Again, when thinking of ways to store toys use buckets or bins, as these can easily be repurposed as they get older.
