Zhilei Zhang is tipping the scales at close to 300lbs ahead of his upcoming clash with Deontay Wilder.

'Big Bang' is one of the heaviest fighters in the glamour division and usually operates around the 275lbs mark.

For his last outing - a majority decision loss to Joseph Parker two months ago - Zhang jumped up to a career-heaviest 291lbs.

But it looks as though he is set to surpass that figure when he dukes it out with Wilder on June 1 in the unprecedented Queensberry vs Matchroom 5 vs 5 tournament.

Taking to Instagram, Zhang uploaded a video of himself stepping on the scales at a monstrous 296lbs.

And it looks as though he won't be stopping there, with Zhang captioning the video: "300lbs incoming."

Several members of the boxing fraternity urged Zhang to come down in weight after his sluggish display against Parker.

Zhang dropped the Kiwi twice in rounds three and eight but seemingly lacked the energy to get his adversary out of there when he had him hurt.

The 41-year-old's gas tank has always been suspect so it would appear, at least on the surface, that the decision to add more bulk to his already massive frame would be to his detriment.

However, there may be a method to the madness.

The blueprint to beat Wilder was laid out by Tyson Fury in their second and third fights.

After boxing to a draw in their inaugural encounter, Fury opted to pack on 17lbs to help him force Wilder onto his heels and nullify the American's colossal punching power.

Fury came out far more aggressive for their second fight and blasted Wilder out in the seventh round after downing him twice en route to the stoppage.

For their trilogy bout, Fury added another 4lbs and once again came out on the front foot.

This time, Wilder had far more success, dropping Fury twice.

But he would eventually succumb to a brutal knockout in the 11th stanza.

Zhang may be hoping to do the same after watching Parker slip through his fingers last time out.
