A BEAUTY guru has revealed a little-known hack for defined long eyelashes when using a cheap mascara.
They revealed the trick is also useful for preventing eye infections when repeatedly applying the same product.
Beauty enthusiasts took to Reddit’s AskWomen forum to share their mascara hacks.
“Most mascara formulas are the same the brush makes the difference,” one Redditor wrote.
“When you find a brush you like, wash it off and use it with a cheaper mascara.”
Another response to the post agreed that mascara wands need to be regularly disinfected because they “hold bacteria.”

Posting under the handle u/VersatileFaerie, they revealed how to thoroughly clean them if you prefer not to buy a replacement to keep your eyes safe.
“I first gently wash it with some dawn, which helps to get the oils off, and then set it on a towel to dry,” they wrote.
“Once it is dry, I let it soak in rubbing alcohol for 10 mins and then set it on a towel again to dry.
“The rubbing alcohol disinfects it.

“You can't do this with all brushes, some have bristles that are held with glue and the glue can be dissolved with the alcohol.
“My brush was a fine plastic mascara brush that was all one piece so it was fine to clean this way.
“That being said, if you have an eye infection, you still need to throw it out since it is next to impossible to get it fully clean of that infection.
“It is why it is easier to use the cheaper wands you can replace at the stores.
