Holidaymakers planning to head to Greece this week have been issued fresh travel advice by UK authorities.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has published new guidance ahead of a major football competition which will be held at the nation's capital this Thursday (May 9). UK holidaymakers who are heading to see the UEFA Europa Conference League to see Greek team Olympiacos take on Aston Villa, should heed the latest advice to make the most of their trip.
As well as being asked to plan ahead, visiting game attendants should make sure to listen to locals, as well as taking extra care of personal items. Even those who aren't travelling to Athens for the game should also pay attention to advice to ensure they are fully prepared.
In a statement published on Tuesday, May 7, the FCDO stated: "Athens will host the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday 9 May between Olympiacos and Aston Villa. If you are travelling to Athens for the match, you should:
- plan your movement around the city to arrive at the stadium well in advance of the match kick-off
- follow the instructions of the local authorities
- take care of your personal possessions including passports, especially in crowds and on public transport

The Foreign Office regularly provides advice about risks of travel on various countries to help British nationals make informed decisions. It recently issued a series of updates for anyone travelling to Turkey, advising holidaymakers to be careful.
On Sunday, May 2, the government organisation warned travellers against visiting three parts of the country for safety reasons. It added that going to any of these areas could result in travel insurance being invalidated.
In addition, those planning to visit Greece or Italy should ensure their passport meets certain validity requirements. Also shared by the Foreign Office, passengers whose travel document's don't meet these guidelines risk their flights being scrapped - even if they are already paid for.
