BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Transferring credits between the Community College of Vermont and some other Vermont colleges will soon become easier.

A new program allows any student with an associate’s degree from CCV a simpler path to transfer to a bachelor’s degree at Vermont State University, Norwich University, Champlain College and St. Michael’s College.

Officials say the colleges signed a memorandum of agreement joining the Vermont Transfer Guarantee. It will allow students CCV graduates who meet the required GPA guaranteed admission to the school of their choice without an application fee or personal essay requirement. Transferring students are also considered for grants and scholarships.

“So many of our students aspire to continue their education beyond CCV, and the Transfer Guarantee gives them a practical path to those goals,” CCV President Joyce Judy said in a statement. “We are proud to partner with NEBHE and four-year institutions to better serve Vermont students and families, particularly those who face barriers to pursuing a college education.”

The effort grew out of the New England Transfer Guarantee program which began in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island in 2021. Officials say Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont are expected to be integrated into the effort by this fall.
