Heavy rain causes traffic snarls, power outages and deaths in Hyderabad

Heavy rain with hailstorm threw vehicular traffic out of gear in Hyderabad, with congestion at all major junctions of the city. In some areas, the rain that lasted for an hour overwhelmed the city with traffic snarls till late in the night as main routes of the city were clogged up with vehicles everywhere.
Sudden downpour in Telangana’s Hyderabad caught the city administration off guard as several parts were lashed with heavy rain on Tuesday. The showers though brought respite from scorching heat, parts of the city reported deaths due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.
Two persons died in the Medak region of the city after a wall collapsed during rain, and one death each was reported from Warangal and Hyderabad.
Serilingampally with 13.3 cm topped the list of areas with maximum rainfall, as per the data from the Telangana State Development Planning Society. It was followed by Kukatpally, which recorded a rainfall of 11.7 cm, Bachupally with 10.5 cm. Secunderabad with 10.4 cm and Khairatabad with 10.08 cm rainfall were also among the areas that recorded heavy rain.

Two people, who died in Medak region, were construction workers who were working at a poultry farm near Rayulpur village in Kaudipalli mandal. The deceased have been identified as Subrahmanyan (45) and N. Nagu (35).
Another person in Warangal district died when a tree fell on him. The incident occurred on the National Highway near Katralaya village in Wardhannapet mandal. In Hyderabad, one person died of electrocution in the Bahadurpura area after he touched an electric pole.

As many as 32 tree fall complaints were reported between 6 pm and 8 pm, of which 18 were still under progress, as per the data shared by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) Disaster Management wing.

Meanwhile, 17 complaints about water logging were reported, of which three area were yet to be drained.

There were huge traffic jams from the Raidurgam Biodiversity junction to IKEA and other stretches on the IT corridor. The movement of vehicles was also affected on the city's outskirts.

Meanwhile, power interruptions remained another major concern for the city dwellers.
The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) started sharing on X around late evening about a series of power outages in almost all major suburbs of the city.
