Antiques Road Trip has established itself as an afternoon stalwart since launching in 2010.

It has been commissioned for a 29th series on BBC One while a 13th series of sister show Celebrity Antiques Road Trip will air in primetime on BBC Two.

The civilian format sees two antiques experts compete against each other, with a week's budget of £1,500 to cover five legs, to be spent at their discretion.

At the end of each leg, the expert with the highest profit, or smallest loss, at auction is deemed the winner.

The overall winner is the expert who has won the highest number of legs.

In the celebrity format, each expert is paired up with a celebrity while the contest is self-contained and conducted in a single leg.

Meanwhile, production has already begun on a third 20-episode series of The Travelling Auctioneers.

The show launched in 2022 and sees auctioneering experts join forces with masters of restoration.

Together, they uncover neglected treasures in family homes which can be turned into winning lots at auction.

Series two aired in January and featured auctioneering experts Christina Trevanion and Izzie Balmer, along with restoration masters JJ Chalmers and Robin Johnson.

Antiques Road Trip presenter fights back tears as auction takes disastrous turn

The Travelling Auctioneers was named Best Daytime Show at the RTS Scotland Programme Awards 2023.

It comes as an episode of Antiques Road Trip left narrator Tim Wonnacott barely able to hold back giggles after an unfortunate blunder.

The BBC show has featured a number of gaffes over the years as experts and dealers hunt for items to sell at auction.

In the episode, which first aired in 2017, dealer Charles Hanson was left blushing and gasping ‘oh dear!’ after accidentally breaking an 188-year-old relic.

After inspecting the George IV duelling-type pistol, Charles went to put the treasure trove back in place, only for a bit of it to snap off.

A mortified Charles said: “Oh dear me. Well, that’s just great, isn’t it? I might have to buy it now, just regardless.

"It is pretty tired, but the reason I like it is because it’s in its original condition.”

Applications are open to take part in the new series of The Travelling Auctioneers.
