BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - These days, more and more people are seeking health care at Vermont’s free clinics -- thank goodness for the providers and volunteers -- but the dramatic rise in the number of clients exposes a gaping hole in the increasingly unaffordable Vermont medical system.

In this edition of 802 News, Mark Johnson spoke with leaders of Vermont’s medical safety net -- Olivia Sharrow with Vermont’s Free & Referral Clinics; Tia Poalino with the Rutland County Free Clinic; and Heidi Sulis with the Open Door Clinic of Addison County -- about why more people are coming through their doors as well as the services they provide to the uninsured, the underinsured, homeless people, and those we depend on at harvest time and in the service industry.
