More flights were also queued up on the runway waiting to take off.

Edinburgh Airport bosses said teams carried out repairs on a "small breakup" on the runway.

A number of passengers asked staff at the airport on social media why planes were circling and why many were waiting on the runway.

Staff replied on X saying repairs were being carried out on the runway.

And thanked passengers for their patience.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: "Arrivals and departures were suspended as teams carried out repairs to a small breakup.

"The runway is approaching the end of its life with a full replacement operation planned for next year.

"We always prioritise safety and maintain a regular maintenance regime, and we will continue to complete works where and when required."

It comes after a nationwide glitch had passengers stuck in massive queues at Edinburgh Airport earlier this week.
