Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña's series Special Ops: Lioness is getting a second season at Paramount+.

The spy thriller created by Yellowstone boss Taylor Sheridan and executive produced by Kidman and Saldaña will return after breaking records for the streaming platform, becoming the service's most-watched worldwide series premiere on launch day back in July 2023.

The show follows Joe (Saldaña), a CIA officer in the Lioness programme who's tasked to train young recruit Sergeant Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) as she goes undercover and befriends the daughter of a known terrorist. Kidman plays Joe's boss Kaitlyn Meade.

Sheridan wrote all eight episodes of the first season and will be back for the upcoming round.

"Our Paramount+ audience resoundingly has joined forces in support of Lioness' gripping, global story and the powerhouse performances from Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira and Nicole Kidman," Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of Programming at Paramount+, said in a statement.

"We cannot wait to see more of the heart-stopping suspense and action that Taylor Sheridan and the incredibly talented team deliver in its second season."

"Lioness captivated audiences around the world as one of the most-watched global series premieres on Paramount+ last year," Chris McCarthy, Office of the CEO, Paramount Global and President & CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, echoed Grossman's feelings.

"Driven by Taylor Sheridan's masterful storytelling and Nicole Kidman's and Zoe Saldaña's remarkable performances, season two promises to immerse audiences in yet another riveting, adrenaline-fueled journey."

After the renewal became official today (May 9), De Oliveira took to her Instagram to voice her feelings about returning as Cruz.

"What is meant to be will always stay," she wrote in a post celebrating season two.
