A Whataburger in Trussville, Alabama - 15 miles northeast of Birmingham - officially shut its doors on May 6, per the Trussville Tribune.

The closed fast food chain's windows were boarded and the restaurant was surrounded by a chain link fence.

A sign on the fence read, "Sorry, we've closed," and directed customers to a nearby Whataburger in Leeds, around 16 miles away.

Customers speculated on X that the closure had to do with the restaurant's location.

"It's in a terrible spot," reads one comment.

"It's going to be like that restaurant on the other hill that can never get anyone to buy it even though it's such a nice building."

"Terrible location," wrote another user.

Whataburger was started in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1950, and its locations are concentrated mainly in the southern US.

The fast food chain has 1,023 US locations across 372 cities.

Trudy's, a Tex-Mex chain based in Austin, also closed on May 6.

The chain of nearly 50 years shuttered its South Star location in South Austin, leaving only one remaining restaurant in North Star.

Trudy’s had struggled financially and filed for bankruptcy a few years back, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The chain's bankruptcy issues were resolved when it was purchased by a venture capital firm in 2020 for $6.5 million.

However, the restaurant could not escape its financial troubles and was forced to close its location in South Austin.

“We have looked at multiple options to keep this location open, but the economics and changes in the immediate shopping area unfortunately do not work,” said Trudy's CEO Scott Taylor, per local ABC affiliate KVUE.
