Mid Devon Junior Netball Cup 2024 showcases young talent

Rain didn’t dampen spirits but sparked fierce competition

Despite the inclement weather on Sunday, May 5, Blundell’s School was excited as it hosted the first round of the Mid Devon Junior Netball Cup for 2024.

The event saw the U14s and U16s teams in action, with teams from Devon and Somerset participating.

The start of the tournament involved the group stages before the teams were placed in either the cup, shield or plate competition.

Now in its third year, the Mid Devon Cup has become the largest junior netball tournament in Devon, providing all teams a chance to compete at different levels.

The U14 tournament began with five group games each, determining their competitions for the next round.

“There was a range of experience on show, some newly formed teams playing at U14 level for the first time alongside more experienced teams.

The top two teams in each group advanced to the cup quarter finals. The final was a nail-biting game between winners TTNC Spartans and Plymouth Pulse.

The Shield and Plate competitions were equally close, with Titans Rockets, Ivybridge Sparks, and Titans Pulsars taking the top three spots in the Shield, and CCNC Snowleopards, Dart Thunderbolts, and Carol Anne Pearls in the plate.

The U16 tournament started in challenging conditions, but the girls were determined to play their best.

The cup final was a repeat of the U14 final last year, with TTNC Warriors against Titans Meteors. However, Titans Meteors came out on top, taking the cup, with TTNC Warriors in second place,

The shield final saw Blundell’s School take on Dart Lightning. Blundell’s, the only school team, played well against tough club opposition, however, Dart Lightning had a big comeback in the second half to take the Shield Trophy, with Blundell’s in second place.

The plate final was between Musketeers Fever who won against CCNC Jaguars.

Throughout the day, Blundell’s School and Tiverton Titans Netball Club provided a a bake sale organised by parents raising £500 for the club.
