A man suffered ‘potentially serious injuries’ and was rushed to hospital while a woman was also injured following trouble in a Birmingham street which led to a suspect being arrested. The incident took place in Farifax Road in Northfield, near to the junction with Cropredy Road at around 3.30pm on Thursday (May 9).

West Midlands Police said they were called to ‘disorder’ in the road. A man suffered bad injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance on blue lights. While a woman was not as badly hurt and was assessed and discharged at the scene.

Police officers arrested a 29-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 3.40pm to an assault at the junction of Cropredy Road and Fairfax Road in Northfield, Birmingham. One ambulance attended the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found two patients. Firstly, a man who was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries. He received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to hospital under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment.

“Secondly, a woman who was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. She received self-care advice from ambulance staff before being discharged at the scene.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to reports of disorder on Fairfax Road, #Northfield at around 3.30pm on Thursday afternoon. A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
