Video footage shows the huge farm animals - that escaped from a nearby field - mooching around the tough estate as bewildered locals look on and pet dogs bark.

Baffled Margaret Paterson, 55, was chilling out with her pal Laura Richardson, 44, when one of the on-the-loose cattle chapped on the door.

They were left laughing as they mistook the cow for a horse as it stood in the garden in the scheme’s Holmbyre Court - and opened the door.

However, the brown cow was sent packing and joined its pal to hoof it.

Laura told the Scottish Sun: “I was in stitches. I was sitting with Margaret and she went to get something and screamed, ‘F***, there’s a horse in my garden’.

“I love animals so I went to open the door and saw this huge cow.

"Margaret screamed, ‘Don’t let that in my house’, so I quickly closed the door.

“The cow then pressed up against the window to try to open the door.

“It was in a ‘hoof’ that it couldn’t get in so it left rather upset. The cheek of it.”

Margaret, a carer, added: “I was stunned. I was just walking over to get something from the kitchen and I saw the cow. I thought it was a horse and pointed it out.

"Laura loves animals and tried to let it in but I wasn’t having it for tea. It could have caused havoc in my house

“The cow was frightened and tried to enter my house. It must have known Laura was in to open the door.

"It was hilarious the whole incident.

"It’s not often a cow chaps on your door for tea.

“My daughter was with her children at the swing park and saw it trotting about the front of the estate before the tractor came and picked it up.”

Further footage showed one man picking up the pace to get out of the cows’ way as they galloped down the street.
