Champions NCPB target maximum points in weekend match-ups

Champions National Cereals and Produce Board tackle Engineers and National Youth Service this weekend as the Kenya Handball Federation league gather pace at Nyayo Stadium.

If NCPB win both matches, Bryan Mathews' charges will go joint-top with Equity Bank on 36 points.

Mathews, the national team coach, said they are ready for the two ‘tough games’. However, they will take one game at a time.

“We’re not going to take any match lightly, especially now that we’re almost done with the league. It’s one game at a time,” said Mathews.

NYS tactician Anthony Naburuck said two fixtures will determine how they finish in the standings. They are 16th with 16 points.

“My boys are well prepared. We seriously need the wins. On Sunday, we play the best team in the league, which will help rate our performance level,” he said.

The NCPB women’s team also have a game on Sunday, against the champions Nairobi Water Queens. The two, alongside Ulinzi Sharks, lead the table with 30 points although NCPB have played a game more (17).

Ulinzi have a date with Martin Kamau’s vastly improved Daystar University. The soldiers’ coach, Nickson Oyaro, said his boys are ready for the match.

Boomerang have two games, against NYS on Saturday and Daystar University on Sunday.

Young City also have a date with Strathmore University and Daystar University. Technical University of Kenya meet GSU.
