An 81-bedroom Edwardian mansion house in Leicestershire has been put on the market. The Scalford Country House Hotel near Melton Mowbray is available for offers in the region of £3,250,000 with agents Colliers.

While not currently operating, the previously “popular” hotel offers function rooms which seat up to 150 people as well as a 600-capacity marquee. The building is accompanied by eight acres of grounds and also has five additional staff rooms.

Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the building was once owned by Colonel Colman, a friend of Edward VIII; the monarch is said to have stayed at the mansion during his courtship with Wallis Simpson. The mansion was converted into a hotel and has been owned by the Singh family since 2018.

The agents said the property comes with "picturesque" views of the Leicestershire countryside

Josh Sullivan, associate director at Colliers said: “The Scalford Country House Hotel is a classically Edwardian-period house steeped in history and previously a popular venue for leisure, wedding and business guests. Due to its proximity to Melton Mowbray the site offers a number of value-add opportunities in the form of a repositioning of the existing asset or some form of planning gain and change of use, subject to the relevant permissions.’’

Colliers said the property with “picturesque ”views of the Leicestershire countryside, offers “ample” opportunity for “creative management”. You can find out more information about the property on their website.
