Devon, home to some of the UK's finest coastal towns and villages, is a treasure trove of Blue Flag beaches, Mediterranean-like towns, and top-notch holiday destinations for Brits.

One such gem is Torquay, one of Devon's most lively and appealing seaside towns, which has been affectionately referred to as the 'British Turkey' in response to a social media video that sings praises of the resort and its offerings.

Despite facing challenges like shop closures on the high street, the area takes pride in its stunning beaches, palm tree-lined promenade, iconic harbour, and vibrant pubs and restaurants that attract crowds. The English Riviera has long been a beloved holiday spot and a hub of activity during the summer months.

A TikTok video previously posted by user 6mxria highlights some of the breathtaking views you can enjoy while exploring this warm resort, sparking a wave of comments praising the place and comparing it to being abroad.

The comment section was filled with love for Torquay with one person dubbed the resort "British Turkey". Another reminisced: "I've got too many memories to count." Another simply stated, "Torquay is beautiful, I've been there."

One of the most iconic and irresistible features of Torquay is its incredible coastline and beaches like Oddicombe, Meadfoot and Torre Abbey Sands are particular visitor hotspots.

Torquay's harbour showcases the area's stunning beauty and is a place where visitors stroll and admire the array of boats and sea views. It's an area home to a selection of cafes, restaurants, and bars offering delicious seafood dishes.

The town also provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities. Visitors can explore the scenic South West Coast Path, which offers breath-taking views of the coastline and access to hidden coves and sandy beaches.

With its stunning coastline and a range of attractions and activities, Torquay continues to enchant visitors with its unique charm.

Whether you're seeking relaxation on the beach, exploring the coastline, or immersing yourself in cultural experiences, Torquay offers something for everyone to enjoy.

It comes after a study last year of Met Office weather records highlighting that South Devon - Torbay specifically - is the UK's most reliably warm and sunny holiday destination.

Researchers found it offers holidaymakers the best combination of hot and sunny weather, with a high number of annual 'sunshine hours' and strong average yearly temperatures.

Torbay is made up of the towns of Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham and is often referred to as the English Riviera due to its mild climate and popular tourist attractions.
