A flight attendant has issued a stark warning to air travellers, advising them to avoid wearing shorts while flying due to hygiene concerns. In a TikTok video that's caught the attention of passengers worldwide, air steward Tommy Cimato shared his insider tips on how to stay germ-free while travelling by plane.

With more than 450,000 followers on his account @tommycimato, he's become a go-to source for travel advice. Tommy Cimato, who has amassed a significant following as an aviator and content creator, highlighted the potential health risks associated with wearing shorts on an aircraft.

"Never wear shorts on an airplane. You never know how clean it's going to be, so if you're wearing trousers you're going to have fewer germs," he cautioned in his viral post.

The experienced flight attendant didn't stop at wardrobe recommendations; he also shared other crucial tips for maintaining hygiene during a flight. Tommy said: "Do not ever push the flush button or lever with your bare hands. It's honestly just unsanitary and it's pretty gross, so when you flush use a napkin or tissue.

"Don't forget to drink water and stay hydrated! You're going to want about 16 ounces for every flight that you go on."

"Do not fall asleep or lean your head on the window. You're not the only person to do that and you don't know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window.

"Don't feel afraid to let a flight attendant know that you're feeling sick. We are there to help so if you need food, water, or an air sickness bag then please feel free to let us know.", reports the Mirror.

For those looking forward to some sun away from home this summer, a flight attendant has advised bringing disinfectant wipes along. The cabin crew member, sharing advice with Ski Vertigo, highlighted the filthiest part of the plane seat.

Before using the seat pocket for personal items, they recommend ensuring it's clean due to the unknown contents it may have previously held. "If you must use the seat-back pocket, consider lining it with a disposable bag for your items," they suggested.

"This not only keeps your belongings clean but also simplifies clean-up and minimises your contact with potential contaminants. For longer flights, consider packing a small 'hygiene kit'."

The flight attendant said the kit could include "face masks, hand sanitiser, disinfectant wipes, and even a spare set of clothes in your carry-on". Not only will the spare clothes help you get rid of germs faster, but changing clothes after a long flight can "help you feel refreshed" - especially as plane journeys can often make you feel sluggish.

On the other hand, coming into contact with a few germs is unlikely to do you much harm.
