John Lundstram produces nine minutes of MADNESS with an own goal and red card in feisty Old Firm... as Rangers fans lambast 'unforgivable' display that should mean he 'never plays for the club again'

  • John Lundstram suffered a disastrous spell in the Old Firm Derby
  • His own goal gave Celtic the lead before he was sent off for reckless tackle
  • Rangers currently six points off league leaders Celtic following defeat

John Lundstram's nine minutes of madness has left Rangers with a difficult task as they try to chase down league leaders Celtic.

Like many derbies across the world, the Old Firm Derby is the perfect chance for players to achieve cult hero status.

A goal against your bitter rivals will see you revered by the fans for years to come, but there is also the chance that you can become the ultimate villain.

Unfortunately for the Rangers midfielder, his performance against Celtic has left him in the latter category.

Rangers entered the day three points behind their rivals and needed a win if they were to keep pace in the race for the title.

However, they found themselves a man down and chasing the game after a disastrous first half.

Firstly, at 1-1 Daizen Maeda broke down the left wing and cut a ball back into the Rangers area, Lundstram worked hard to get himself into a good defensive position but that is where the good work ended.

His work only served to put him in the perfect position to stab home what would have been described as a neat finish had he done it at the right end.

No bother, mistakes happen, but there was plenty of time for the former Sheffield United player to make a more positive impact for his team.

However, things would go from bad to worse for the English midfielder as he went flying in with a rash challenge on Alistair Johnston.

It wasn't given on the field but after a VAR review it was clear Lundstram had caught the Celtic defender above the ankle with his studs and he was given his marching orders.

Rangers fans on X, formerly known as Twitter were incensed by the nine minutes of madness and did not hold back expressing their discontent with the performance.

One user Rossco said 'Lundstram not so much as riding the storm but being lifted up by the hurricane and jettisoned 30 miles in the opposite direction.

'He completely sold his teammates and his club down the river. Should never be seen for us again.'

Another fan Michael posted: 'John Lundstram should never be seen in a Rangers jersey again.'

ThisisIbrox Podcast also didn't hold back in their assessment of the performance saying: 'That’s an unforgivable first half from John Lundstram. He has seriously let the support down.'

While another fan podcast descirbed the midfielder as 'an absolute disgrace.'
