There is nobody in the golf world who dislikes LIV Golf as much as Brandel Chamblee. Earlier it was Rory McIlroy, but the Northern Irishman has had a change of heart. Now it seems that the veteran golfer is following McIlroy’s path. Recently, during his appearance on Golf Central, Chamblee made a noteworthy revelation.

He expressed, “So the time is now, to Rory’s point about making a deal, I wouldn’t have said that a year ago… but it is the better end of the bargain.” Chamblee has not been an evident LIV Golf fan, and he has not shied away from letting the world know that. Then why a sudden change of heart? Only he can affirm that. Chamblee’s sudden change of heart did not sit well with LIV Golf’s wildcard, Anthony Kim. He called out the analyst for being a “pu**y”, and what unfolded afterward was mayhem.

What happened next between Anthony Kim and Chamblee?

After AK called out Chamblee for his hypocritical retreat, the latter on X, shared his thoughts on Kim’s remark. The 61-year-old pointed out his reasoning for the change of heart, and said, “As for your criticism of me saying a deal with the Saudis is the best deal for golf right now, it’s something I’ve said recently because I don’t think the Saudis are going to turn away from the game and they will continue to be a poaching threat and dilute the product of the PGA Tour.” Chamblee continued his ever-longing dislike for the Saudi-funded league, and said, “It’s the sad reality of you and your brethren on the LIV tour willingly dealing with a murderous dictator for profit so that he can hide his atrocities.” Anthony Kim did not hold back and had a reply ready for him.

Kim wrote, “SM is so funny when people can’t take opinions but give theirs. My focus is on my family and sobriety so I just stated the truth. I am so grateful @livgolf_league for this second chance as I know not everyone gets them. I’ll continue to call it as i c it.Kim was out of the golf scene for over a decade, and he returned to the greens in Jeddah under the wing of the Saudi-funded league.

Kim endured multiple surgeries and struggled with addiction during those years. The golfer revealed that people took his advantage, and did fraud with him as well. He expressed his desire to “work hard every day” and give his best both on the greens and in other aspects of his life. Kim made it clear that his statements were solely his own opinions, not expressions of anger suggesting “there is no anger on my end toward bc but just giving my opinion as he did about me joining LIV.”

Brandel Chamblee has been a prominent critic of LIV Golf, and his recent comments are a continuation of his long-standing opposition to the Saudi-backed league. His disapproval is not a new development, as he has been vocal about his criticism since the league’s inception.

What did Chamblee say about LIV Golf earlier?

On June 6th, 2023, the analyst made a direct statement on NBC, saying, “When I first heard about it, I was completely shocked,” Chamblee said. “After the shock sort of ebbed away, I was hugely disappointed. I think this is one of the saddest days in the history of professional golf.” Since then, Chamblee has frequently been associated with discussions involving LIV. He not only critiques the league itself but also voices his opinions on golfers who have made the transition to LIV.

Chamblee has criticized LIV golfers’ involvement, stating that “Saudi Arabia is attempting to conceal their atrocities and improve their image by purchasing sports stars.” The analyst believes LIV Golf uses the money to sway professionals and that transitioning pros have similar financial motivations. Now, it seems that he has also included the name of Anthony Kim among the aforementioned pros.

Even though the PGA Tour-PIF deal hasn’t come to fruition, controversies have already arisen. Do you still hold the belief that the merger is the right decision for the future of professional golf, or do you think things should remain as they currently stand?
