A video shared by Newlyweds of their dog acting as their ring bearer has got millions of views - but it nearly went completely wrong.

Katie Moffatt, 30, and James Moffatt, 30, from Aigburth, “always knew” their dog, Pancakes, would become famous. They got Pancakes in January of last year, from the Many Tears rescue centre in South Wales.

Katie told the ECHO: “We followed the rescue on Instagram and one day they posted that they had little golden retriever puppies. We weren’t ready to get a dog but we realised we wouldn’t get another chance again.”

Katie and James have been together for 11 years and were married last month at Ullet Road Unitarian Church. The couple knew they wanted to have a dog involved in their wedding before they even got Pancakes. James’ uncle, David Boyle, who lives in America, shot the video that has since gone viral, getting over 3 million views. The story was also run by Good Morning America, which gave the family a lot of attention.

Katie said: “[The video] kind of blew up. We posted it on Instagram, and we were like, ‘This could make him famous.’ We always knew he would be famous.

"It’s obviously been picked up in America now as well. The fame has all gone to Pancakes’ head. He can get away with anything now.”

A few days after the wedding, their vicar, Phil, sent the video to Katie of the CCTV outside the church. Katie checked the footage and was surprised at what she saw.

She said: “Apparently as soon as I arrived, Chester, our dog handler, was outside the church and Pancakes escaped. He was running around the road and she was chasing him all about. At that moment, he had both of our wedding rings attached to his collar.

“It could have been an absolute disaster. Phil was able to tackle Pancakes to the ground and get him inside. He didn’t tell me at the time because I would have completely freaked out, but he totally saved the day.”

People took to the comments of Katie's video to express their delight over Pancakes. One user said: "Best man? Best BOY."

Sylvie said: "The best ring carrier ever!" while Aubrey said: "I love how everyone was pointing down the aisle to help doggo out and pup was so happy to see his people! [sic]"
