Kyle Larson has been making all the waves heading into May. From winning the closest-ever NASCAR finish in 76 long years to becoming one of the very few to attempt the iconic Memorial Day ‘Double’ at the Coca-Cola 600 and Indy 500, and now attending a concert, Larson has truly kicked off his momentous month in record-breaking fashion.

But before the #5 driver gears up for a grueling 1100 miles of racing on the same day, he took his due rejuvenation measures roughly 4689 miles across the pond to France. But in a twist nobody saw coming, Kyle Larson’s Europe Escape also included a Taylor Swift concert. And the country music-listening racecar driver was reluctant to give in to the questionable clothing choices of his fellow concertgoers at the world’s fashion capital, Paris.

According to Larson, this was his inaugural trip to the Old Continent, and as fate would have it, Taylor Swift kicked off the European leg of her Eras Tour at Paris La Défense Arena on May 9. As he has since declared that he is indeed ‘not a Swiftie,’ his daughter Audrey Layne appears quite the contrary.

Like every respectable father, Larson accompanied his 5-year-old daughter to watch her desired artist perform in Paris for a set list comprising all the latest songs from Taylor’s brand new studio album, The Tortured Poets Society.

Although Larson’s much-required ‘break’ from NASCAR action in preparation for some of the toughest tests in auto racing served the Hendrick Motorsports champion well, his double-edged observations from Taylor Swift’s Paris concert may certainly raise a few eyebrows amongst all the Swifties worldwide.

With the well-established current classification of Larson as not a Swiftie, the man himself explained to Jordan Bianchi in recent conversations exactly what has brought about this preference. Elaborating on his newfound perspectives, Larson stated, “I feel like a Swiftie; you gotta wear the bedazzled everything. So no, I don’t feel like a swiftie at all. I do appreciate her.”

“Her music and how hard she works. But no. I am not a Swiftie. There were lots of men dressed very uniquely at that concert…”  However, in conclusion, the #5 driver also said, “You know, I had the T-shirt, and Katelyn (Mrs. Larson) gave me a couple of friendship bracelets to put on. So that was as close as I was getting.”

Nevertheless, this month means way more than wholesome family trips and hidden admirations for Kyle Larson, as he readies his record-breaking advances to etch his name into the record books of motorsports history. But Taylor Swift and Kyle Larson have some well-documented histories of their own, which Larson seems to be putting into his past as he takes his racer-dad duties to the next level.

As per conversations with Jeff Gluck almost 5 years ago, ever since Taylor Swift “departed from country music,” Larson hasn’t exactly been a fan of the global pop icon’s revamped style. But a deeper dive into a series of tweets uploaded from the 2021 champs’ official handle will reveal that Taylor’s music never really did it for Larson seven whole years before his twelve answers to Gluck’s column in The Athletic.

Regardless, the father of three children has evidently matured enough to put the wants and needs of the next generation ahead of his personal preferences. Larson later revealed that Audrey Layne had “been wanting to go see Taylor Swift” after all. Nevertheless, satisfying his call to Europe, the #5 driver also announced he had apparently crashed an all-girls trip to France.

Now, with his focus rightfully shifting from the “toughness” of the Swifties to the “track too tough to tame” at Darlington for the Goodyear 400, Larson holds the unique chance to go back-to-back for race wins both in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, as well as Darlington’s rolling wins record as the Lady in Black’s defending champion. A victory at the 1.366-mile track could propel Kyle Larson into another history-making week.

First, practice and qualifying for the Indy 500 with Arrow-Mclaren and Hendrick Motorsports await. Then, he’ll chase back-to-back All-Star wins under the lights at North Wilkesboro. This month will certainly be an eventful one for Larson. However, it is safe to assume he won’t be listening to any of Taylor Swift’s newer songs to help him unwind from all the stress.
