From the cult-loved Balm Dotcom to the Stretch Fluid Foundation, Glossier’s products have often earned the seal of approval from beauty editors and influencers alike - and their latest launch is no exception. The beauty brand’s new Glossier Invisible Shield SPF50 launched in April in time for the summer months, with shoppers heaping praise on the ‘lightweight’ formula that’s ‘undetectable’ on skin.

The ‘invisible’ broad spectrum chemical sunscreen not only protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays with its factor 50 SPF but has been praised for having similar properties to a makeup primer. And those who have already used it have praised it for not being heavy, greasy, or leaving a white cast.

The sunscreen is packed with chemical sun filters, rice phyto-compounds and aloe leaf juice, which helps soothe the skin after sun exposure. The clear, non-comedogenic gel-like formula offers breathable protection that primes the skin for a smooth makeup application without pilling, which is a two-in-one detail skincare buffs have gone wild for, OK reports.

Glossier has dubbed it ‘the sunscreen for people who hate wearing sunscreen’, with a scent-free formula that has been hailed for preventing your eyes from stinging after application - as is often the case with sunscreen. Another benefit of this SPF is that it has been proven to allow skin to breathe and is long lasting with 97% of shoppers saying their pores and skin imperfections remained 'blurred' after eight hours.

It's no wonder the £32 suncare product has received over 1,000 glowing reviews from shoppers, with one saying: "Lightweight and great under makeup. Love love love this sunscreen- it’s such a nice, lightweight formula. I have very dry skin so haven’t found it too oily, and hasn’t pilled under makeup for me (I mainly use only stretch concealer). It feels so nice on the skin and I’m so happy it finally came out in spf50 :) highly recommend."

One beauty influencer on TikTok, Bambi Does Beauty, also remarked: "New Invisible shield, SPF50. First thing I've noticed is it's got no fragrance. The make-up girls are gonna love this, I just know, cause it feels like a primer - [it's] given a blur, soft focus. I've also rubbed it in within an inch of its life and it has passed the no pill test."

She added: "Glossier, you [have] lied to yourself because this is not just an SPF50, this to me feels like a make-up primer, a skin blurrer, it just makes your skin look soft-focus." She commented on how it had even improved the appearance of a 'beastie' blemish she had.

Now, with all products, what works for one - or a handful in this case - won't work for the next person and some people have unfortunately experienced breakouts, suggesting it may not be ideal for sensitive skin. One said: “I've been using this for about a week now and I love how it's not greasy and there's no white cast, but for some reason a few days after I started using I got small red bumps on my cheeks and chin. My skin isn't normally sensitive but I think it was an allergic reaction to the fragrance in the product. Fortunately the bumps have started to go down but I wouldn't recommend this to people with sensitive skin/allergies.”

If the Glossier Invisible Fluid SPF 50 isn't quite your bag and you'd rather a more creamy texture, La Roche-Posay's UVMUNE Anthelios Ultra-Light Fluid is lightweight, watery and doesn't leave a white cast - nor does it pill under make-up. Another popular sunscreen is Skin+Me's Daily Defence Oil-Free SPF50 sunscreen, which contains next generation sunscreen filters, as well as skincare heroes like niacinamide and vitamin E, costing £19.99.

The Mirror ’s fashion and beauty team is also a big fan of the new No7 Future Renew Damage Protection Defence Shield SPF50. The No7 Future Renew Damage Protection Defence Shield SPF50 promises to protect against visible signs of ageing, including dryness, uneven skin tone and texture, as well as wrinkles. The product has been designed to work in conjunction with the existing Future Renew range - targeted to reversing visible signs of sun damage and ageing - to protect it against everyday sun damage in the future, too.
