Peter Canavan described Dublin's Leinster final performance as "lethargic" after claiming that the Boys in Blue took Louth for granted going into the game.

The Dubs ran out winners by four points in the end at Croke Park, but Louth pushed them all the way with Craig Lennon scoring a second goal for the Wee County in added time. However, in the end, it was Dublin who won their 14th consecutive Leinster Championship and it was their 63rd provincial title win in total.

But speaking at half-time on RTE's coverage of the match, Canavan took aim at the Boys in Blue. The Tyrone legend stated that he felt that Dublin underestimated their opponents.

He said: "It's clear that Dublin have underestimated this Louth team and this Louth challenge. It's a case of they've taken them for granted.

"Louth have a very simple gameplan here. Dublin's kickouts, let them have have it, we're getting 15 players back and it's up to Dublin to break that defence down and if there's one team this past couple of years that's been doing that it's Dublin with pace, power and creativity, but there's none of that. Whenever they do lose possession going forward, the body language and attitude of some of their players [isn't good], there is no chasing back, no turnovers.

"Dessie Farrell has been very animated on the sideline and I can see why, but you've got to give Louth kudos for the way they have set up and the way that they've went about their business so I'd say the Dublin changing room at halftime will be a lively one."

After the game, Canavan described Dublin's overall performance as "lethargic".

He stated: "It was a lethargic performance. Yes, they did step it up somewhat in the second half, but they appeared to be a team maybe more focussed on their trip to Portugal tomorrow than they were on winning the Leinster final."
