Mikel Arteta hailed his Arsenal team as “phenomenal” as they made sure the Premier League title race would go down to the final day of the season.

A first half strike from Leandro Trossard gave the Gunners a win at Old Trafford and now they need Manchester City to slip up at Spurs for the destiny of the title to be in their hands.

Kai Havertz, who set up the only goal of the game, laughed: “I’m going to be the biggest Tottenham fan ever on Tuesday. Let’s hope for the best.”

And Arteta said: “They (Spurs) are a difficult team to play against. Hopefully, they can do it. My experience is that any team can beat any team. There is honesty and respect in the game.”

Arteta clearly believes Ange Postecoglou’s side will do all they can to do Arsenal a massive favour but, whatever happens at Spurs, the Gunners will still go into Sunday’s home game against Everton with their title hopes alive - having now won more Premier League games this season than the Invincibles managed.

“We go to the last day with a chance to win the Premier League. We wanted to experience that. It is part of our journey.

“And it is 27 wins in the Premier League - that’s not progress, that’s history.

“Some of the players have not been in this position, they don't know what is at stake and how you feel emotionally to have to win and win and win from December or January.

"It is a phenomenal thing they are doing."
