Kai Havertz quipped that he and the rest of the Arsenal squad will be "the biggest Tottenham fans" going when they face Manchester City on Tuesday.

The Gunners beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon to temporarily return to the Premier League summit. And while City have played one game less than Mikel Arteta's men, Arsenal are now guaranteed to have a chance of winning the title on the final day of the season.

City face Arsenal's arch-rivals, Tottenham, in midweek in a match which will have major title ramifications - and if Spurs win, then the Gunners will only need to beat Everton to end their agonising 20-year title drought.

And despite Arsenal and Tottenham's fierce rivalry, Havertz has insisted that he and his team-mates will be cheering on the white half of north London - for one night only.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Havertz, alongside match-winner Leandro Trossard, said: "I am going to be the biggest fan of Tottenham ever, we are all going to be! So let's hope for the best."

On the win in general, Havertz added: "It was very important. To play here it is always tough. We prepared for the game very well. We didn’t play our best game but we knew we needed that three points. We have them now and we can be very happy with that."

Arsenal have a wretched recent record at Old Trafford and Arteta admitted that the significance of Sunday's result could not be underestimated.

The Spaniard told Sky Sports: "Absolutely not [it can't be underestimated]. That is why we have only won twice in 20 years here. We started the game very well, scored a goal and I think it affected us in a negative way with the way we played with the ball.

"Today we wanted to open that door to take it to the last game, in front of our people with their families there and make it one of the most beautiful days we have had. We will believe together and will see what happens."

When he was asked if he would watch City's trip to Tottenham on Tuesday, Arteta added: "I will watch the game. I watch all the games. We need the result that is true. On top of that we have to do our jobs and everything is still at stake."
