Popeyes launches new twist to fan favorite sandwich and fans say the sauce ‘may remind you of something very familiar’
POPEYE'S has put a new spin on its famous chicken sandwich for a new menu item.
Diners say the flavorful sauce reminds them of something they've tasted before.
Popeye's unveiled the Golden BBQ Sandwich this week, available at participating restaurants nationwide.
It features the chain's recognizable buttermilk-battered chicken breast fillet in a brioche bun.
But this time, it is slathered in a sweet and tangy golden BBQ sauce.
Pickles come as standard, while guests can also choose to add Havarti cheese and Applewood smoked bacon.

"We wanted to create something that reminds our guests why they should love lunchtime,” said chef Amy Alarcon, vice president of culinary innovation at Popeyes.
"The golden BBQ chicken sandwich brings a rich combination of sweet and tangy with every bite, perfect for those looking to zest up their midday meal.
"It's about bringing a little joy, a little excitement, and a lot of flavor to the table—or the desk, as it may be."
What's more, fans can earn a free chicken sandwich with any $10 minimum purchase at participating US restaurants (terms and conditions apply.)

Customers who have tried the golden BBQ chicken sandwich have shared their thoughts on social media.
"It's got a sauce that may remind you of something very familiar!" said food vlogger Peep This Out on Facebook.
"It’s the same sandwich with BBQ sauce, nothing special even if the original sandwich is pretty good," said another on Reddit.
"It's basically all just the sauce that does it," agreed a third.
Popeye's is not the only fast food chain with a new menu item.

Taco Bell has surprised fans by adding chicken nuggets.
Currently available only in Houston, Texas, the Taco Bell nuggets are hitting stores nationwide June 5.
They come with two dipping sauces - bell sauce and jalapeño honey mustard sauce.
“I’ve tried them and they’re pretty good,” commented one user on Instagram.
Another said the nuggets were “surprisingly crispy.”
