Female footy star's court ordeal is OVER after police took out restraining order against her mother after 'argument' saw the cops called

  • A court case involving an NRLW star has been dropped
  • The matter related to an argument involving her mother
  • But Jess Sergis has prioritised Origin over the matter

A women's footy star has seen a court case involve her mother being dropped after she prioritised NSW Blues training camp over attending the hearing.

In January 2023 police were called after an argument erupted between Jessica Sergis and her mother on their way home from a function.

NSW Police applied for an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Jessica's mother Jenny on behalf of her daughter following the incident near their Maroubra home. No charges were laid.

On Monday, the case was set to be heard but the NSW Blues star failed to attend court, choosing to focus on the start of State of Origin on Thursday. The matter was subsequently dismissed.

Paul McGirr, the lawyer for Jenny, said both she and her daughter were happy the matter was over, adding they were unimpressed with the fact it made it to court in the first place.

'While I respect the job the police have to do, this matter shouldn't have seen the light of day,' Mr McGirr told the Daily Telegraph.

'The incident occurred in January last year and they have still been living together in the family home without any dramas – Jessica never even provided a statement to police.

'Unfortunately, AVOs get handed out like lollies but they can have everlasting effects on family and could damage a relationship between a mother and daughter until eternity.

'We are just happy this has been dealt with and the whole matter can go away.'

Sergis is one of the top stars in the NRLW. In 2019, she was awarded the Dally M for female player of the year.

She has been named in the centres for the first Origin game, which kicks off at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday.
