Driver of 'speeding' Audi 'tried to run' as car stung by police

Dramatic images show the moment an Audi was stung by police in Smethwick. The 'speeding' driver had 'failed to stop' and 'drove dangerously', officers said.

The incident was believed to have unfolded on Saturday night, May 11. West Midlands Police said when the vehicle was halted and boxed in, the driver 'tried his hand at running'.

The force's traffic team shared pictures from the incident on X, which appeared to show the car stopped on Waterloo Road. An accompanying post read: "Road Crime Team on patrol in Smethwick when this Audi was speeding.

"The Audi failed to stop, drove dangerously. The Audi was stung, boxed in and driver tried his hand at running."

The post concluded by saying the Audi had been 'taken without the owner's consent' and the 'driver had no licence'. The team said there was "one in custody" as a result.
