How about a third? Former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster sees no reason why back-to-back-to-back promotions cannot be achieved by the Hollywood-owned Welsh club.

Wrexham made history this season as they achieved successive promotions for the first time in the club's 160-year history, making it two promotions in three years since Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club.

The Red Dragons finished second in League Two behind Stockport County, twice avoiding the lottery that is the promotion play-offs.

But while the club took to life in the fourth tier of English football without much fault -- aided by a squad bolstered with experienced heads such as Steven Fletcher, Andy Cannon and James McClean -- many believe the promotion to League One will offer a more humbling experience for the Welsh club.

Indeed, fans and pundits alike have reached a general consensus that a top-half finish would represent a significant achievement for a club still without an official training ground and whose Kop end is currently home to a temporary stand.

Not Foster though.

"No, they won’t be thinking that," the former England keeper said on his podcast Fozcast. "I guarantee you the owners and the manager and all the coaching staff and most of the players will not be thinking about solidifying. They won’t be thinking about consolidating in that league for a year or two. They will be thinking we want to be knocking on the doors of the playoffs.

"A charge for the playoffs was the aim this year, make sure you’re in the top six in the ending stages of the season and they found themselves in the top three. And comfortably in the top three. It’s been an incredible season, a fantastic achievement and I hope they can do it again. "

Foster announced he was coming out of retirement to help Wrexham in their bid for National League promotion in March 2023. The former Manchester United keeper made an immediate impact and his saved spot-kick in the 3-2 victory over Notts County paved the way for the club's first promotion party.

Yet, where the club acclimatised to life in League Two after a short adjustment period, the demand proved too much for Foster and after a frenetic 5-5 draw with Swindon Town in August, Foster announced he was returning to retirement.

The signing of keeper Arthur Okonkwo, on loan from Premier League club Arsenal, proved a shrewd bit of recruitment business and another hugely important signing for the club's second promotion bid.

And Foster believes another summer of smart recruitment to buttress an already-strong squad will be key to securing a sensational third promotion on the trot.

"I think they’re going to do it," Foster. "I think they’re going to invest again in another four or five, maybe half a dozen players good players, solid people, solid professionals that are going to raise the standard just a little bit more. But I think that what they’ve got in that team anyway is League One level.

"If you can add a little bit more quality, a bit more experience, I think they’re going to be there or thereabouts next season. And to go back-to-back-to-back, I don’t know if it’s been done before, but it’d be phenomenal."
