A TikTok user has come up with a 'life hack' for cleaning a part of your kitchen that you've probably overlooked.

It turns out there's a spot in your kitchen that might be harbouring more grime than you'd expect. The place in question is the extractor hood filter, which sits above many stoves and can become a hotbed of grease.

Its job is to capture the smoke or steam from cooking, but over time it gets clogged with dirt, making it less effective.

In a video, TikTok user @AndreLifeHack shows how you can easily clean it by clicking the hood down and pouring boiling water over it in the sink. This method quickly washes away the grime, proving much more effective than scrubbing with a brush and cleaning products. After rinsing, just let it dry and pop it back into place.

The video went viral last week, racking up an impressive 10.4 million views. Some of Andre's followers suggested that putting the filter in the dishwasher works well too, but for those without dishwashers, this tip was particularly appreciated.

"Damn, gonna give this a try tomorrow," one user commented. While another exclaimed: "Wow I am trying this."

Someone else wondered whether to buy a new filter for their rental property that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in decades, while another simply said: "One problem solved! ".

Andre is a TikTok sensation known for his home advice, boasting an impressive 7.9 million followers. His most viewed video, with over 118million views, showcases a unique method of removing a cork from a wine bottle without the need for a corkscrew.

In the clip, Andre demonstrates how applying the heat from a candle lighter to the neck of the bottle can cause the cork to gradually rise and eventually pop out on its own.
