Taylor Swift continues to reign on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Her latest 31-track opus, “The Tortured Poets Department,” held on to the number-one spot for a third week, this time with 282,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streaming performance. It was a good week for Dua Lipa too, though, despite not coming close to challenging Swift for the top spot. Her third studio album, “Radical Optimism,” debuted at number-two (an all-time career high for the artist) with 83,000 album units (also a career best), including 51,500 in traditional album sales (yep, another career high). Her previous album, “Future Nostalgia,” peaked at number-three but had tremendous staying power on the chart thanks in large part to its blockbuster singles “Don’t Look Now” and “Levitating.”
Next up at number three was Morgan Wallen‘s “One Thing at a Time” with 71,000 units. Metro Boomin and Future‘s “We Don’t Trust You” slipped to number-four with 61,000 units. Rounding out the top five was another debut, K-pop band Seventeen‘s “17 is Right Here,” which racked up 53,000 units, mostly from album sales.
In our weekly Billboard 200 predictions contest, most Gold Derby game players were correct that “Tortured Poets Department” would remain at number-one, though most of us thought she’d eke out 300,000 or more album units — missed it by that much. Our consensus was also correct that “Radical Optimism” would be the number-two album of the week. However, only six people predicted “One Thing at a Time” at number-three (it was expected to come in fourth). There were 16 people who accurately bet on “We Don’t Trust You” at number-four, while 14 anticipated “17 is Right Here” showing up right there at number-five.
