OSU Golf: Cowboys Headed to NCAA Championship, Place 3rd in Regional
The Cowboys are headed back to the NCAA Championships.
After a rare year away from the NCAA Championships, the Cowboys are headed back.
Oklahoma State qualified for the 2024 NCAA Championships by finishing tied for third in their regional at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The Cowboys finished with a team total 845, tied with West Virginia. That put them two shots back of Cal and eight shots back of regional winner Oklahoma.
The top five teams at the regional advance to the NCAA Championships which is from May 24 to May 29 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s North Course in Carlsbad, California. Surprisingly in the Cowboys’ regional, top seed Arizona State did not make the cut, finishing in sixth behind North Florida.
Senior Jonas Baumgartner was the Cowboys’ highest-placing individual, finishing his three rounds tied for fourth at 4-under 208. Rayhan Thomas wasn’t far behind, finishing tied for seventh at an even-par 210. Every Cowboy finished in the top 30 of the individual leaderboard. Freshman Gaven Lane was tied for 22nd at 4-over 214, and Bo Jin and Preston Stout each finished tied for 28th at 6-over 216.
This marks the 75th time the Cowboys have made it to the NCAA Championships in 77 tries. OSU was last at the event in 2022, where the Pokes finished fifth in stroke play before falling in the quarterfinal round of match play to Texas. The Cowboys last took home a national title in 2018, doing so at Karsten Creek.
