Noah and Olivia are still the most popular names for newborn babies in England and Wales.

There were a total of 3,289 baby girls given the name Olivia in 2022, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics.

That makes it the most popular name for newborn girls for the seventh year running. Amelia was the next most popular name, with 2,884 newborns.

That’s followed by Isla with 2,613, Ava with 2,293, and Lily with 2,281. Noah is the most popular name for newborn boys, with 4,586 babies receiving that name in 2022. It’s the second year in a row that Noah has held the top spot in the baby name charts.

Muhammad has moved up to second place from fifth, with 4,177 baby boys being given the name in 2022.
George is third on the list with 3,699 babies, followed by Oliver with 3,691, and Leo with 3,610.

Noah is the top boy’s name in four regions of the country - the North East, the East Midlands, the East of England, and Wales.

Muhammad, meanwhile, is top in the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, the West Midlands, and London.
George tops the list in the South East, while in the South West it’s Arthur.

Olivia is the top girl’s name in every region of the country except London where it’s Amelia. Amelia is second in every region with the exceptions of London (Olivia), the South East (Isla), the South West (Florence) and Wales (Isla).
