Don McLean has openly criticised Prince Harry, stating that the Duke of Sussex "just doesn't get America". The American Pie singer also warned the ex-Royal should "shut his mouth."

In his memoir Spare, Harry launched several attacks, predominantly targeting the Royal Family, but he also spared no praise for his experience at Elvis Presley's iconic home, Graceland, in Memphis.

Harry described his impression of Graceland as: "Dark, claustrophobic. I walked around saying, 'The King lived here, you say? Really? '" He further quipped: "The King's interior designer must have been on acid."

Don McLean was incensed by these remarks and took to social media to express his displeasure, reigniting the controversy recently, reports the Mirror.

At the time of Harry's comments, Don tweeted: "Prince' Harry should shut his mouth about Graceland and Elvis. He is a hot house orchid, a show horse who never did a thing."

Speaking with the Daily Mail, the American singer elaborated: "He doesn't understand that Elvis is like the poor man's king. He came from nowhere and his recordings are among the greatest ever made."

He continued: "His family were as poor as they could be and Harry criticised Elvis' home as if he's comparing it to Buckingham Palace, and that misses the point completely. Here's a fellow who has been brought up to be mannerly, but you don't criticise America when you're living here as our guest."

Don has harsh criticism of Harry comes in the wake of the Duke updating his primary residence to the US on official documents.

The documents in question pertain to Travalyst, Harry's eco-travel initiative, and were retroactively dated to June 2023, following the news that he and Meghan Markle had been asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage.

During a Good Morning America interview, when asked by host Will Reeve if he felt American, Harry quipped: "Do I feel American? " He then succinctly replied, "No."

"I don't know how I feel," Harry continued. Reeve pressed further about what might prevent him from seeking American citizenship, to which Harry responded, "I have no idea. I'm here standing next to these guys. The American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind, but certainly not something that is a priority for me right now."
