Asda has recalled the ingredient that could pose health risk to consumers and customers have been urged to check their cupboards for the product. Asda said: "Wanis are recalling Tropical Sun Semolina Coarse 1.5Kg because it contains wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label.

"The affected best before end dates are: May 2025, June 2025, July 2025, September 2025, October 2025, November 2025, December 2025, January 2026, March 2026, and April 2026. Symptoms of IgE mediated wheat allergy can occur from within minutes to up to 2 hours after ingestion and include rhinitis, asthma, hives (urticaria), swelling (angio-oedema) or anaphylaxis. There may also be vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and a flare up of eczema.

Some people only experience reactions to wheat when they have exercised after eating it, Allergy UK warns. These reactions can be severe and is known as ‘wheat dependant exercise induced anaphylaxis’. Inhaling wheat flour can also cause asthma-type symptoms.
