Never-before-seen footage has revealed Aussie cricketers reacting to the ugly incident in the Long Room at Lord's during the last Ashes series, with a player calling aggressive spectators 'f**king idiots'.

Pat Cummins and wicketkeeper Alex Carey made themselves public enemy No 1 following the stumping of Jonny Bairstow during the second Test match at Lord's in London.

The incident was major news in the United Kingdom and Australia, with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak weighing in on the scandal, while English fans roundly booed Cummins and Carey for the remainder of the series.

The typically placid MCC was also enraged by the incident, with members almost coming to blows with Australia's David Warner as the team walked through the long room for lunch shortly after Bairstow's dismissal.

The players' immediate reaction is captured in the latest series of Prime Video's The Test, which will play later this week.

The documentary takes you inside the dressing-room soon after the controversial incident where Marcus Harris gets a laugh from his teammates when he tells them: 'They (spectators) were kicking off over the fence. I was like 'you write the rules, you f***ing idiots – it's not our fault.'

Marnus Labuschagne adds: 'One bloke was foaming at the mouth. A bloke kicked 'Bull' (David Warner) as he was going up the stairs.'

After the teams clashed during the lunch break, Labuschagne adds: 'You almost missed a brawl in the lunch room. Jonny came in hot. He goes, 'are you guys happy with that?' Davey (Warner) is mid eating a chicken thing and he just stops and takes it out and goes 'yeah, very'. It was freakin' priceless.'

Usman Khawaja was shocked by the abuse from the members, recalling that one of them told him: 'I can say whatever I effing want'.

'One of the MCC members started spraying me. There was probably three of them that called out but one of them was really inappropriate.'

Aussie captain Pat Cummins also reveals himself as the brains behind the plan to stump Bairstow.

'I saw him do it (wander out of his crease) a couple of balls in a row,' said Cummins.

'So I said to 'Kez' (Carey) the ball before, just have a throw.'

The doco also includes footage of Cummins talking to coach Andrew McDonald about his on-field clash with England paceman Stuart Broad.

'Broad said something like, "unfortunately mate, that's what you're going to be remembered for… I can't believe you've done that",' Cummins said.

'And I'm like, "Oh Broady, you're such an upstanding citizen mate, aren't you?"'
